Creators Update added a setting to lower the blue light of your PC. ![]() Your phone likely has a way to switch to warmer colors at night, and now Windows does, too. Staring at an unnaturally blue screen at night can shift your body's natural clock and make it difficult to get a good night's sleep. Go to Settings > System > Display > Advanced scaling settings and toggle on Let Windows try to fix apps so they're not blurry. Now, you can let Windows attempt to rectify a blurry scaling result. Sometimes, however, this scaling can lead to blurriness. Windows 10 has had a scaling option that can increase the size of fonts and icons on high-resolution displays so you can read text without squinting while keeping your display at its native resolution where its image is at its crispest and sharpest. Try to adjust the size of text and icons and so on by using the scaling option in tip 1 before you lower your screen resolution from the recommended setting on Settings > System > Display. When those pixels don't line up, things get blurry. At its native resolution, each pixel on your LCD display is directly mapped to a pixel in the image sent by your PC's graphics to produce a sharp image. If you select a lower resolution, then your screen image will look blurry. You should make every effort to use your display's native resolution, which Windows calls the recommended resolution. Windows will recommend a percentage, but you can play around with the offerings to find the right balance between legibility and screen real estate. Go to Settings > System > Display and you'll find an option for Scale and layout. If you are having trouble reading text, recognizing icons and navigating apps because your high-resolution display makes everything look so tiny, then you need to check out Windows 10's scaling options. NOTE: We recommend only removing text from desktop icons and shortcut icons if the icons are easily identified without text.1. For a third icon, you would do it three times, etc., etc. In this case, you have to use ALT + 255 multiple times.įor example, for the second desktop icon, you would type ALT + 255, ALT + 255 and then press Enter. If you try to use ALT + 255 for a second icon, it will say that there is already another icon with that same name. The second thing to note about this method is that it will only work for one desktop icon. The shortcut now appears to have no text under it. If so, click Continue to finish renaming the shortcut. Not sure why, but it only works when you use the keypad on the right.įor some shortcuts, you may see the File Access Denied dialog box display. ![]() Note that you need to use the number keypad on the right-hand side of the keyboard, not the one that is located above the letter keys. This time, instead of typing a space, hold down the Alt key and type 255 on the numeric keypad. To remove text from a shortcut, right-click on the shortcut icon and select Rename from the popup menu. The Desktop Icon Settings dialog box displays, allowing you to turn on and off the desired desktop icons. NOTE: You can add and remove desktop icons by right-clicking on the desktop, choosing Personalize from the popup menu, and clicking on the Change desktop icons link on the Personalization screen. The desktop icon now looks as if there is no text under it. Press the space bar to type a space where the text was and press Enter.
